COVID Thread

Give it another 2.5 days...

We appear to have plateaued over the last couple days....we've been slightly increasing but staying in the 4-5 hundred range. I'm awaiting the news next week after the holidays have started.

Years ago I used to race Grand Prix Legends online with a group of guys. One of them was from Finland. According to him at the time, they lead the world on alcoholism and suicide among men.

That was the late 90's, early 2000's. Not sure if it's true these days.

The fast-spreading Omicron variant is now responsible for about 80 per cent of new cases in Quebec, the Institut national de santé publique du Québec said this afternoon.

“Laboratory analysis has revealed the very rapid progression of the Omicron variant, with a prevalence of around 80 per cent, barely three weeks after the first confirmed case in Quebec,” the institute said in a press release.

“This means that eight out of 10 SARS-CoV-2 infections are now attributed to the Omicron variant” in Quebec.

Within weeks, scientists at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research expect to announce that they have developed a vaccine that is effective against COVID-19 and all its variants, even Omicron, as well as from previous SARS-origin viruses that have killed millions of people worldwide.

The achievement is the result of almost two years of work on the virus. The Army lab received its first DNA sequencing of the COVID-19 virus in early 2020. Very early on, Walter Reed’s infectious diseases branch decided to focus on making a vaccine that would work against not just the existing strain but all of its potential variants as well.

I mentioned that long ago in this thread. At the time they had said that within the next 3 to 5 years they would have a vaccine that would be good for all SARS based viruses. In fact, it may have been on the old forum.

Looks like they're way ahead of schedule.
