The Climate Change Thread

I've been seeing it on the news. Just awful. Last time I recall seeing anything like that in Germany, Helmut Kohl was out there in his hip waders helping dig drainage trenches and lay sand bags.

Saw a clip on the news that the big fire out in Oregon is creating its own weather. It's making lighting clouds that have no rain in them and starting even more fires. Just fucking unbelievable.

I really hadn't heard of it except in passing (as the opposite of wind chill). I did get introduced to it during my deployment in Jan 2002. There were very specific guidelines for temps, humidity and amount of work time / rest time during the combination of the two.

We get temps like that from time to time already. In fact, this week, our highs are in the 90's with humidity to match. It's simply breath taking and I've lived in the south my entire life.

I can't imagine what someone who lives in Vancouver or Portland, who maybe saw 90's once or twice a summer, suddenly feel dealing with 100+ temps for days on end.

Back when the Atlanta Falcons (football) used to play outdoors, it was a HUGE advantage because they were used to the heat and humidity. The training camp back then was about 4 miles from my house.

You'd see teams like the Denver Broncos or the Seattle Seahawks come down here and just be completely gassed at half time and look half dead in the 2nd half.

And those were professional athletes. What that does to the rank and file citizen under far more harsh conditions is simply brutal.

Our rainfall is completely fucked up over the last few years. You used to be able to damn near set your watch by it but now it's like either a monsoon or a fucking drought. There's no in between anymore.
