This weeks sign of the Apocalypse.

The scary part is I believe I know the guy who came up with the idea (boot loader attack) back in the early to mid 90's. When he did a paper about it at a security conference he was immediately invited to Washington. We never actually discussed the subject anymore afterwards.

In the bankruptcy process, the company plans to sell all of its 100 company-owned restaurants to two franchisee groups that operate Hooters locations in the Tampa, Fla., and Chicago areas. The combined group collectively operates a third of the U.S. franchised-owned locations, according to the press release.

One contamination source was identified at the Bermel Giorgis (also spelled ‘Georgis’) holy well, in the Quara district [3]. The holy well is a site of pilgrimage attracting visitors from across the globe where rituals such as cleansing with holy water ‘tsebel’ are undertaken. The holy water is consumed or used for bathing for physical or spiritual healing. Although it is not sold commercially, it can be taken home by pilgrims.

The biological barrier was breached, they're slithering toward our border, and the US Department of Agriculture is now carpet-bombing parts of Mexico with weaponized flies to stave off an invasion.

This is not a drill. Screwworms are possibly the most aptly named parasites imaginable, both literally and figuratively. Screwworms—technically, New World Screwworms—are flies that lay eggs on the mucous membranes, orifices, and wounds of warm-blooded animals. Wounds are the most common sites, and even a prick as small as a tick bite can be an invitation for the savage insects.

There was a blip in 2016 when screwworms mysteriously showed up in the Florida Keys, producing ghastly wounds on the islands' adorable and endangered Key deer, the smallest of North America’s white-tailed deer. But with intensive efforts and about 188 million sterile flies, the outbreak was declared over by the end of March 2017. The source of the screwworms was never identified.

Now, the US is staring down a more significant threat. In 2022, the biological barrier at the Darién Gap was breached. By July 2023, screwworms reached Costa Rica, then Nicaragua in March 2024, and Honduras by September 2024. Now, they are in Mexico.

But the very name "Weight Watchers" — not Weight Losers, not Weight Forgetters — was always a reminder that the plan was to sell people on the permanence of their condition. It's no surprise that this hyper-leveraged private equity scheme collapsed the instant Americans actually started losing weight.

We generally use the words “may,” “will,” “could,” “expect,” “anticipate,” “believe,” “estimate,” “plan,” “intend,” “aim” and similar expressions in this press release to identify forward-looking statements. We have based these forward-looking statements on our current views with respect to future events and financial performance. Actual results could differ materially from those projected in the forward-looking statements.

In other words, "We have absolutely ZERO confidence that any of this shit is going to work, we're just trying desperately to prolong the stock value so we can dump it off to some suckers stupid enough to believe any of it and save ourselves before it all implodes".
