For Christmas, I wanted to pick up a little classical style guitar and give that type of playing a go. Needless to say, having a wall full of guitars already, the last thing I wanted to do was go all in on yet another one, especially not knowing if it's a style of playing I'm going to stick with.
So I did a few hours of research and came down to the Yamaha NTX 1. Here it is:

Had everything I was looking for: good electronics, a not quite totally wide classic neck that would help me transition, and a name brand I've trusted for decades. And at $459.00, a good entry level price.
So I ordered it.
It got here earlier today.
It lasted in my house exactly 4 minutes, 30 seconds before it went right back into the box, into the box that box came in, and into the back seat of my Volvo to return to Guitar Center.
The best thing about this guitar is how quickly, and without any questions whatsoever, Guitar Center took it back.
To be fair, it is a very good looking guitar. Just beautiful. That, and how quickly GC took it back are all it has going for it.
The string action was at nearly a quarter inch at the 3rd fret. By the time you get to the 12th fret, it was nearly 3/8 an inch. That's dobro / pedal steel guitar territory, not anything anybody would even dare try to play with their fingers.
Simply horrific on a level I can't comprehend.
That ANYBODY at Yamaha would put that thing in a box, let alone ship it to a customer just tells me that Yamaha no longer cares about its products, its customers, or its reputation.
So if anybody comes across this and you're thinking about it, DON'T. Just DON'T!
