On one deployment (out of country, foreign base) we were given a location previously used by Americans. Your old burn pit was actually very well marked and there was no going over the line under threat of barracks detention.
I should hope so. Can you imagine leaving that behind with the attitude of, "Oh well...not our problem anymore"?
