An Ottawa homeless shelter says protesters from the "Freedom Convoy" harassed staff and volunteers Saturday, demanding food from their soup kitchen, and one shelter client was allegedly assaulted.

The convoy, billed as a protest against COVID-19 mandates, brought thousands of people to downtown Ottawa. While the bulk of the crowd remained on Parliament Hill and was largely peaceful, the Shepherds of Good Hope said on social media that there was an incident at its shelter.

"Earlier today, our staff and volunteers experienced harassment from convoy protestors seeking meals from our soup kitchen," the Shepherds said on Twitter. "The individuals were given meals to diffuse the conflict. Management was then informed of the issue and no further meals were given to protesters. Our soup kitchen is committed to providing meals to people experiencing and at risk of homelessness in Ottawa. This weekend’s events have caused significant strain to our operations at an already difficult time."

Fuck them, their convoy and any business they work at when it's found out.

So both our governments (US/Can) decided cross border truckers need to be vaccinated. About 80-85% (or even higher) are vaccinated but there is a vocal 15% who say no to vaccines.
They decided to protest and drive to Ottawa to make the federal politicians 'listen' to them. Then the pick-up maga-wanna-be's joined. At first there were a couple of company trucks but they disappeared before it even got started (companies understand bad looks).
Along the way it picked up it's fair share of racists, sexists, misogynists, anti-vaxxers' and outright nazi's, At least one federal fringe party joined ( the 'Peoples Party of Canada' - PPC- maga wanna be's) and several conservative parliamentary members joined, including the federal conservative leader, (both provincial and federal) in their support.
After the debacle on reaching Parliament Hill with the War Memorial, The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Terry Fox memorials, most of the mainstream politicians (conservative) left but the fringe parties have remain (read PPC - they at least get news coverage there).
The Parliament building is secure when it wants to be; so they'll be no ransacking. One downtown mall has already declined to open as the protestors now say they are going to go en-masse to different malls in groups and un-masked.

I've already written the federal conservatives about the bullshit they participated in and failed to condone before it was too late.

Local businesses who had truck support signs seem to have now lost their appetite for displaying such support - especially in a military base supported town.
