Make no mistake, that asshole backed Trump the whole way. When Trump did all the shit he did, McConnell was right there with him.
It was McConnell that refused to sit Obama's justice to the SCOTUS. He was doing Trump's bidding before Trump was even president.
Only in the end, when they thought Trump was going to jail, did he change his tune.
And now that he thought he was rid of Trump for good only to find that he's coming back, he's checking out before the shit really hits the fan.
