I don't see either one of them winning the GOP nomination if they can barely cop 44 and 55% at a CPAC fully set up for them.

You are correct. But also Mitt Romney, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Jeb Bush to name a few who went to the primaries and didn't withdraw before then. Ted Cruz didn't withdraw until freaking May 3 and was followed by Kasich on May 4th.
