The house two doors over from me is for sale. They're asking $389,900.00 for it.

It sold for $317,000.00 just last year almost to the day.

When it was brand new, it sold for $195,000.00

It's just insane what these houses are selling for. Absolutely insane.

I purchased ours in the mid 80's. One of my perks is low property taxes.
This province went though a bit of a real estate boom in the early 90's from non-Canadian buyers. At one point as property values rose from sales around their house an elderly couple lost their lifelong home to the ever increasing taxes from local house prices going through the roof.
The hue and outcry made the politicians implement a 10% cap on property tax increases until the house was sold across the province. Once a sale had happens then the new owners would get the updated tax bill. This has worked fine for all these years and there have been no more cases of the elderly/pensioners losing their houses to rising taxes.
Comparable houses in the area have a new tax of approximately $2500-3000 while I currently sit at my very smug $1200. We joke we can't afford to move. :ROFLMAO:
