Pretty brutal considering you only get 10 years for murder.

Well, that's drug law in Russia. It's draconian.

The funny part is that murder is the same thing: a maximum of 10 years.

That's why it's customary on somebody's 10th wedding anniversary to jokingly say, "If you had killed him (or her), you'd be free by now."
