Not sure if anyone is paying attention. But some curious things have been happening over at World of Tanks NA. I suspect the end is nigh.

On April 20th a notification was posted on the NA website and game launcher that the central server was being shutdown and temporarily moved to the East server. https://worldoftanks.com/en/news/announcements/server-maintenance-0421/

Of course in typical WG fashion, this announcement came just hours before they were to shut down and move the server. Realizing what a huge failure this was to good customer service, I took to the Reddit server. I knew the reaction would be typical shill responses, but had to do it. So for your entertainment, here are some of the responses, along with the gracious down votes.

[Minor PSA] US East will be back online starting Tuesday Apr 20th while USC goes offline for relocation on Apr 22nd. USE will not be staying, it will go offline once USC is moved.

This isn't a "Minor PSA". Seems kinda last minute to announce / implement such a major change. Sounds like poor planning to me. Unfortunately, its not all that surprising.

it has been announced. also it changes pretty much nothing to users in NA. maybe a bit worse ping or better depending on location. If like some you are playing form Australia or EU, then that becomes maybe an issue, but lets face it, it is a few players at most.

Been looking for that email communication in my inbox stating they would be shutting down and then moving a server. Don't see it. Please continue to drink WG piss and call it lemonade.

I'll get right on it, have them email you whenever anyone does something, otherwise you'd need to check the web site. that would be too much effort. I know you paid so much for the game.

Not everyone visits the website daily. Generally when a company is going to do something that will affect its customer base, its just good customer service to make sure their customers get the news / message. An email blast is simple to do and effective way of mass communicating information. But I guess that would be too much effort!

Like, I said, I did not expect to get any agreement out of this crowd. WG could serve shit on a silver plater and theses guys will down it like a chocolate candy bar. Anyways, the between the lines here is that clearly WG is having some issues keeping their server running.

It gets better. As of today. The new temp server is offline.

[EMERGENCY PSA] World of Tanks Data Server Outage - Please be aware! Submit any comments here if you have any.

PSA
Tankers,
We are currently experiencing a power outage in one of our data centers, causing game services to go offline. Our team has been hard at work bringing services up in our backup data center and is still working on the solution. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the problem we do not expect service to return until Saturday, April 24 at 02:00 PT | 04:00 CT | 5:00 ET. All account data and progress are safe and will be available when the server returns.
Players are our number-one priority. We understand your frustration and thank you for your support and patience during this interruption.
We will issue compensation for the downtime once the issue is fixed—details are to come in a future message.
Sincerely, Anton Pankov Product Director, World of Tanks
EDIT: This only affects the NA server clusters (US E, SA) at this time.

So... The new server that was supposed to host the player base for the move of the old server is now down. Not only that, the entire NA cluster is down!?
Id be willing to bet there is more to the story, and a good chance its not coming back!

Thanks for reading
Daniel ( Meatslab )

Meatslab? I think I remember you from WoT. It's been years though. I quit playing in 2016. Just couldn't take the bullshit anymore. Anyway if thats the same Meatslab I'm thinking about good to see you again!

And nothing would surprise me about WoT. I wouldn't be surprised if a disgruntled employee just pulled the fucking plug on them and walked out and they're scrambling to fix the shit. After all they've pissed off thousands of people employees included.

Hey! Yes, it is I Meatslab :)

Im still playing the game. Of course, off and on. Usually only last around 4 battles before I just log off. Mostly play Foxhole and Warthunder.

LOL! I could see an employee doing something like that for sure!

Hey man! Good to see you again!

Yeah, I got a PM from someone that the WoT site was down so I went and checked it out. They just had a simple "we're doing maintenance" announcement on the WoT site page but over at Warships it was totally different. It said they had a "major problem".

As you mention in your post, it's typical complete failure on Wargaming's part. It appears as though very few people knew there was going to be a move and when the move took place it caught half the employees off guard.

Just completely farcical like all things Wargaming.

Glutton for punishment eh? 😁

It got like that for me at the end too. I'd not play for a couple days then log on play 4 or 5 games lose them all in complete blowouts and remember why I hadn't played for a couple days. Finally I just said fuck it and that was that. Never logged in again.

I think that's how everybody went out. Last time I played I got in my KV2 and I swear by the time I got out of our own cap most of the team was already dead. That was it for me.

This is the most frustrating part of the game, next to shitty maps of course, is the number of players in the game that have no idea how to play. They can just purchase tier 8s and 10s and skip the learning curve. Its a disservice to the players who have made the grind to find themselves in a tier 10 battle with players that only have a couple hundred matches under their belt.

I could spend days talking about the things wrong with the game.

Ain't that the truth.

The sad part is it never changed. From the day I started playing in 2012 to the day I last played 4 or 5 years later it was:
  • Poor MM
  • Arty
  • Ridiculous levels of RNG
  • Toxic environment
  • Rigged contests/events (match fixing)
And nothing was ever done to address any of it. The MM was never changed. Arty was actually made far worse. The RNG was changed only once but people started complaining they were getting pummeled because people could actually hit what they were aiming at, so they undid that and went back to roulette wheel RNG.

The only thing they ever did about the toxic environment is turn off cross team chat. They never perma-banned the well known abusers who were "friends" of the WoT in crowd. Hell, we had stuff on the Wargaming employees spewing racist hate, bullying and everything else and nothing was ever done about it.

And of course it was always the same clans rigging the contests and events ruining it for everybody else. Wargaming did nothing about any of that either.

Just keep hurling in new OP tanks, wait for them to stop selling, nerf the hell out of them, introduce another OP tank, rinse-repeat.

Frankly, I'm amazed they're still in business. I truly am. I figured they would have gone the way of the dodo by now.
