We all have our trials and hard times, but I just got off the phone with my dear friend on John's Island, South Carolina and guys, I'm still numb.

Her daughter in law has been diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. It has spread to her liver and lungs. Her odds are 1 chance in 12 of surviving another 5 years.

She's 36. She has a 3.5 year old daughter.

As if that weren't enough, a few weeks after that diagnosis, my friends brother who lives one island over on James Island, South Carolina calls her up. He can't get out of the bed. He has no idea what's wrong with him.

She calls an ambulance for him and meets it there. They take him to the hospital, scan him and find out he has stage IV pancreatic cancer down to the bone.

He's done.

A week or so after that, her other brother gets diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. His odds are pretty good though and I know him well. He'll tough it out, I'm sure.

We think we've had a rough few months to a year? Always remember that it could be worse.

It's a sign.

Really. Cycles are happening. The earth is spinning on it's axis as it's traveling around the sun. Advancing forward in its count in time toward the next phase of what's to come.

Yea, really... Sounds like a pretty stupid remark to make. But, it means something beside the celestial orbital pattern. I guess what it really means is "Life as we are used to "around us" on our daily plane of equilibrium changes dramatically more than we realize, like legs of a stool being kicked from under us.

It's just amazing how it all happens at once sometimes.

My father had to bury his father, and pay for all the funeral by Friday of one week, then by Monday-Tuesday, the following week, had to bury his mother & sister from a car crash, and not one of his siblings would help him pay for that funeral either. The following week my mom almost bled to death, all I can remember as little boy was all the blood on floor, and dad carrying her out to the car in a blanket.

When they got her to the ER, the nurse and the doctors declared her dead. Then, only 10 mins. later did they decide, "oh maybe she's not? Hold up getting ready for the autopsy crew, we still have a heart beat barely, guess we almost made a mistake, meh." That was doctors for you in 1965, rural Tennessee.

Guess, that was enough to make anyone start drinking?
