Sorry, but I have to ask: what the ACTUAL fuck are you doing putting all of your eggs in one basket during war time?
You couldn't drag me into a helicopter in Ukraine right now. They're sitting ducks, for crying out loud. Do these people live in some alternate reality?
Nach monatelanger Debatte hat sich Kanzler Scholz durchgerungen, Kampfpanzer an die Ukraine zu liefern. Auch die Verbündeten wollen offenbar mitziehen. Aus den USA könnten Abrams-Panzer kommen.
It'll take about a year before they get a single Abrams, and they're going to regret getting them.
Yes, it's a fine tank. But it is a VERY difficult tank to learn on, to work on and then the worst part is it absolutely GUZZLES high octane jet fuel.
It takes about 5 gallons of gas to go one mile with a combat load. That's more than double what it would take a Leopard II.
They're going to wind up having to use 3 times the amount of fuel, three times the tankers, three times the men and three times the soldiers to secure the logistics lines to run the Abrams tanks vs. the Leopard II.
The United States should have been more proactive with the cash and just paid Germany to make more Leopards and send the ones they have. It would have been better for all concerned in the long run.
Even we couldn't keep all of our Abrams running during Desert Storm. Ukraine simply doesn't have the manpower, even to run 50 of them. It's going to turn out to be a liability more than an aid to them in the long run.
