Today, about an hour ago as I type this, long time agent provocateur Roger Stone was sentence by Judge Jackson to 40 months in prison. Stone was convicted on 7 counts including lying to congress and witness intimidation.

Therein lies the problem: how is it that a man is facing 50 years in prison, gets recommended to server only 7 to 9 years and winds up getting only 3 years and 4 months?

Had he been a black man named Terrell Williams and facing the same thing there’s no doubt in my mind he would have been recommended for 30 to 35 years and wound up getting 20 at least.

But that’s par for the course in the United States – if you’re a white man with at least some money and a few connections you can, almost literally, get away with just about anything.

Another X factor on this case is will Donald Trump now pardon him?

I honestly don’t believe he will. After all, he could have done that long before the trial began and saved all kinds of time, money and heartache for all involved. Given his recent spree of pardoning war criminals, slime ball politicians and more, it does beg the question why not his “good friend” Roger Stone?
He also didn’t pardon Paul Manafort either. It’s almost as though Trump thinks those two are better off locked up where they can’t do any more damage to his upcoming campaign. After all, most of his last campaign wound up going to jail. For review:
George Papadopoulos, former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, was arrested in July 2017 and pleaded guilty in October 2017 to making false statements to the FBI. He got a 14-day sentence.

Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chair, was indicted on a total of 25 different counts by Mueller’s team, related mainly to his past work for Ukrainian politicians and his finances. He had two trials scheduled, and the first ended in a conviction on eight counts of financial crimes. To avert the second trial, Manafort struck a plea deal with Mueller in September 2018 (though Mueller’s team said in November that he breached that agreement by lying to them). He was sentenced to a combined seven and a half years in prison.

3) Rick Gates, a former Trump campaign aide and Manafort’s longtime junior business partner, was indicted on similar charges to Manafort. But in February 2018 he agreed to a plea deal with Mueller’s team, pleading guilty to just one false statements charge and one conspiracy charge. He was sentenced to 45 days in prison and 3 years of probation.

Michael Cohen: In August 2018, Trump’s former lawyer pleaded guilty to 8 counts — tax and bank charges, related to his finances and taxi business, and campaign finance violations — related to hush money payments to women who alleged affairs with Donald Trump, as part of a separate investigation in New York (that Mueller had handed off). But in November, he made a plea deal with Mueller too, for lying to Congress about efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.

And now of course, Roger Stone. So every major player that was anywhere near Trump during his 2016 election is either in, already been to, or is on the way to prison. This of course isn’t including 32 others also charged during the Mueller investigation.

So we’ll wait to see if Trump pardon’s Stone or not. My money is on that he will not. After all, he got what he needed out of all of them without getting caught.

Did you really expect Trump to actually help any of them?
