RIP Gene Hackman

I was just coming to post. Dam. I had the pleasure of seeing Unforgiven with my Dad. As we walked out I remember the discussion was that Gene should get an oscar for that role and he did.

Thank you Mr Hackman for years of entertainment.

Saw a neat post from Mel Brooks and it vanished right in front of me. But it went like this:

"I had the pleasure of knowing Gene Hackman because he happened to play tennis with Gene Wilder. Gene was telling him about the movie we were working on, Young Frankenstein, and one of the characters, a blind man, that was in it. Hackman then said, "Do you think Mel would let me play the blind man? I've always wanted to do a comedy!" The rest is history." - Mel Brooks

The outlet, as shared by New Mexico’s chief medical examiner, explained the situation. As it turns out, Arakawa died from Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. This is a rare disease that can be contracted by humans with contact from mouse droppings. The disease cannot be spread from person-to-person.

The consensus is that Hackman “probably died around Feb. 18,” and that he “was in a very poor state of health” at the time. Thus the investigator believes “he died as a result of his heart disease.” Because of the timing, however, they believe Arakawa died a week prior on February 11 which was when anyone last heard from her.

It’s possible that after she arrived home, at some point she passed away, which left Hackman alone. Due to his Alzheimer’s disease, he possibly didn’t know of Arakawa’s death, and simply passed away from natural causes around February 18. Investigators noted he was not dehydrated.

On the news, they said he was found near the door with his cane. It's possible he finally realized she was hurt and was going to get help when he had his attack. The thought of a phone never occurred to him.

Alzheimer's is fucking brutal.
