The first steps to a sonic screwdriver (a futuristic tool used by Dr. Who)

Researchers at Tokyo Metropolitan University have created ‘tweezers of sound’ that can move objects without physical contact.

The technology creates non-contact manipulation of small objects with sound waves by using an array of ultrasound transducers.

The transducers, an object that converts energy from one form to another, allowed researchers to generate a 3D acoustic (sound) field which trapped and lifted small polystyrene balls from a reflective surface.

I wonder if that's the same sort of thing that's being used against people making them sick.

Different frequencies, different effects. Ever heard of infrasound?

There are the 18/19 hz 'fear' frequencies

The typical range for human hearing runs from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz (20 kHz), although this varies from person to person, and shrinks as we age. Under ideal lab conditions, some people can pick up sounds as low as 12 Hz — well into the “infrasound” range. But even when we don’t consciously hear such sounds, they may induce feelings of anxiety, especially at higher intensities. This has led some people to dub infrasound in the 18.9 Hz range — i.e., just a tad below the threshold for human hearing — the “fear frequency.”

Then there is the 7hz kill freq.

The most dangerous frequency is at the median alpha-rhythm frequencies of the brain: 7 hz. This is also the resonant frequency of the body’s organs. At high volumes, infrasound can directly affect the human central nervous system, causing disorientation, anxiety, panic, bowel spasms, nausea, vomiting and eventually organ rupture or even death from prolonged exposure.
