So I get down here to what can best be described as a walking, talking, breathing cluster.

My friends brother has had his 1966 Chevelle up at a custom shop in North Charleston for the last 5 years.

He's fallen ill with pancreatic cancer, a stroke and a broken hip, so he has not been on top of things for a while.

So they gave me this binder last night.

It is chock full of invoices totaling $211,000.00 that he's already paid.

The issue? They still don't have a car.

I'm going up there in the next few days to see what's what.

Nearly a quarter of a million dollars for a '66 Chevelle?

I don't think so.

True. Especially in this case. I've known Cricket for 25 years. He's never been the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he is a nice guy.

At any rate, nobody deserves to be ripped off, and I think this is a particularly egregious case of it.

No.

They allegedly used a custom frame that costs 17,000 dollars. They used a great many parts like that according to the paperwork.

Problem is, nobody has seen any of it.

Wayne, my friends husband, was up there two weeks ago and took pictures and the car is literally hollow. Completely. No interior, no engine, no transmission, nothing.

What he doesn't know though is what else isn't there because he doesn't know what to look for. That's why he wants me to go up there with him.

Once I see if the custom frame, wiring, braking system, etc. Is there or not, he'll know to turn it over to his lawyer and let him handle it all.

The only reason he hasn't already is because he isn't mechanically knowledgeable enough about cars to know what parts are which.

I am.

That's actually the plan. We're going up there to see exactly how bad it is. Missing the motor and interior is one thing. Missing another 125,000 dollars worth of parts and labor is another.

Once we know how bad it is, they'll be better prepared with how to present it to their lawyers.
