(CNN)The New York City Council passed a series of reforms for the New York Police Department on Thursday, including ending qualified immunity for officers, which protected them against civil lawsuits.

About time. I've heard of another city also passing legislation.
And that's the way it should always have been.

The police argument has always been: if they're susceptible to lawsuits, they won't be able to do their jobs.

The reality is: since they're not susceptible to lawsuits, it's given them a green light to do anything they want without any repercussions.

Let's see how many of them "fear for their life" from an unarmed man running away from them and pump him full of lead in the back from here on out.
