OK, it's all on order and will be picked up either later today or tomorrow.

But first, I'd really like to harp on about how impressive my current computer actually is. It's a Dell XPS 8300. First generation i7 processor. I bought it in May of 2011, over 10 years ago. The only upgrades done to it were memory (32 gigs @ 1333 mhz), power supply (650 Watt EVGA Bronze) and video card (EVGA 960 GTX SSC 4GB).

It's been a hell of a ride. Well done, Dell.

And now, meet the new boss - same as the old boss:
  • Processor: 10th Generation Intel Core i7 - 10700K
  • Board: MSI Z490 A Pro
  • Memory: 32 GB Dual Channel Crucial Ballistics DDR4 @ 3600 mhz
  • Hard Drive: Samsung 2TB 970 EVO Plus M.2 NVMe Solid State
  • Case: MSI MPG GUNGNIR 110R
And I'll be moving over my power supply and 960 GTX to complete it. Should be good enough to go another 10 years. (I'll upgrade the video card probably in a year or two.)

OK, so here are all the parts (That's the old Dell behind the parts. It's there to get the power supply and video card out of it.):

Now this is nifty: That is the hard drive laying across the RAM. I wasn't really familiar with what an M2 drive is and was really surprised at how tiny it is. It is literally the size of a stick of gum. I laid it across the RAM for scale.

It goes in that area with the red box around it and then a plate goes over the top of it.

Without doubt, BY FAR, the cleanest, neatest install I have ever done or owned.

And here it is completed with the lights running. I don't particularly like the lights that much, but they were free so what the hell. This thing cold boots, and I mean power completely off to the login screen, in 6 seconds flat. Total costs: $1086.07

So I fired up World of Warships, then Photoshop (It opened up ready to go in 3 seconds), then took a screen shot of the system status on the MSI app that came with the motherboard. Here it is:

This thing is just unbelievably fast.

yeah. The new M2 drives are nice. You can even retro-fit them into older machines via a PCI slot if you have an older "mission-critical" PC.
I had never seen one until now. That is quite something.

U... R... A... Heretic for you have sinned for going to $ntel.... And while you sinner went for the demonic RGB in the House of the Case... I the Disciple of Discontent still carried the torch of Righteous Chaos....

For my upgrade to my Most Holy of Rigs... The FrankenFukker, I slew the Alien of Dell and took its mind and soul into my beast...

BEHOLD... the power of a 1950 Thread Ripper in the belly of the beast, for it is the AMD 5900OEM... with its Massive power of a 5900X @ 65 watts... Isn't Technology grand????

The winds of Chaos guided me well for my cost was $484 (inc. S/T). The magic number of 22... The master builder number... One of the perfect numbers of creation for 22 x22 = 484... perfection be named!!!

Actually I did pick a AMD 5900OEM 12 core 24 threads at 4700hz maxed. It has the computing power of a 1950 thread ripper. It is about 5% slower than a 5900X but the 5900X runs at 105watts and at 4800hz max. The 5900OEM runs at 65watts. This is a no brainer as it's just a 15 minute drop in upgrade for my rig. The 5900OEM is incredibly hard to come by for DIY as they are only sold to the corporations. The Dell Alienware carries the 5900OEM in their machines.

OH bty I did try WoT a few weeks ago after not playing for over 3+ years. Needless to say that I had to uninstall it their game control center was active even while I was offline from that game. Nope I don't deal with stuff like that.

Anyhow congrats heretic on your upgrade. Charlie out.
