Sorry I've been MIA. I'm not feeling well.
Basically, at the start of a new senate, the two sides get together to make the rules. The minority side will try to get some sort of guarantee that they won't get steam rolled on all legislation.
It normally results in a pissing contest that results in a bunch of half measures that pleases nobody.
What Mitch is trying to do is get Schumer to guarantee the filibuster in writing.
For the record, that has never been done in American history.
It just shows the blatant evil that Mitch is.
What will in all likelihood happen is the dems will do what Mitch was doing: shelve all gop bills and motions and either simple majority everything or get Biden to executive order it.
Our system of government has always run this way, but the partisanship the last 20 years has made it untenable.
It isn't about right and wrong anymore.
It's about power.
That's exactly right.....
That's what's going on.
Mitch is a bastard, plain and simple. He is one of -the main problems why we are in the mess we are in. He' a major point person, as to why we are in the jam we are in. The man should have been gone, a long, long, long, time ago !! There needs to be an upper limit on how long a Senator can serve! In the rule book there needs to be a mini picture of Mitch McConnell's face next to it.
Also, certain rule provisions need to be changed to stop the power whores like McConnell from doing what they do.
Also, what leads to this is our broken campaign finance system. People like McConnell stay in power, representing billionaires, getting rewarded to sabotage, break, disrupt, stagnate, obstruct, and defeat our democracy, and the peoples business, so they can get re-elected to do it all over again, again, and again.
It's also caused by the broken E.C. Electoral College we have. How it affects the Senate. And, it does affect the Senate! The Republicans are taking a big advantage against the democrats in the senatorial election process each election cycle.
AND, I can't stand that Damn wife of his! Sorry, I just can't. Nothing against Chinese, Taiwanese people at all. I just can't stand her.
