Republican-led U.S. states have alleged companies are prioritizing environmental, social and governance policies (ESG) over their financial responsibilities to their shareholders.

The move could prohibit Texas' governmental entities from investing in one of Europe's biggest banks.

"HSBC's new energy policy is a prime example of a broader movement in the financial sector to push a social agenda and prioritize political goals over the economic health of their clients," Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said.

Florida's chief financial officer said in December his department would pull $2 billion worth of its assets managed by BlackRock Inc (BLK.N), a sizeable divestment by a state opposed to the asset manager's ESG policies.

There's so many problems with that I don't know where to begin.

Other than that being interstate domain, which belongs to the Federal Government and that interfearing with border patrol duties is a felony...

OK, so I know where to begin, I just don't know where I would end there's so much wrong with that idea.

"How can President Trump avoid prosecution in New York?," asked Graham on Twitter. "On the way to the DA's office on Tuesday, Trump should smash some windows, rob a few shops and punch a cop."

The senator added: "He would be released IMMEDIATELY!"

Poor people would have been arrested for inciting violence with a statement like that...

A lot of people are making a big deal out of that and they're completely missing his point.

I have no love of Lyndsey Graham, but I see his point. New York went to a no cash bail system under democrats that resulted in people being released only to commit new crimes. In one example, a couple of members of a Mexican drug cartel were released with no bail and wound up murdering somebody the same day.

That was his point - that New York would let him go for trashing the place, so what's the point in having him arrested for this.

The quieter bill signing came after DeSantis was criticized by gun control advocates for holding a book signing at a Georgia gun shop last week just days after a mass shooting at a school in Nashville.

“If Gov. DeSantis really cared about public safety and protecting law enforcement, he’d be back in Florida fighting to keep guns out of the wrong hands,” said Makiko Felice, with the Florida chapter of Moms Demand Action, a group that backs gun control, in a statement released Thursday.
