Just ordered my first HOTAS

"Some" assembly required.

The options are incredible though. You can actually set the tension for each access on the stick. They included a LOT of hardware and spare parts as well. Different tension springs, replacement pads, the works.

So I decided to try DCS out again since I have good sticks now. Got the flight controls working on two aircraft but that's as far as I got. It is REALLY hard to fly most things. I downloaded a demo of the BF 109 K4 and my God it's unflyable. I was lucky to get off the ground alive and didn't bother trying to land it.

I did a bit better in the P51 Mustang. I almost lost it landing it though:

So then I had a go with the Su-25 that comes with the game. It's probably what I'll be flying for a while to get used to jets. It was easy enough to get off the ground and fly, but it's not the most maneuverable plane in the world.

Even on a slight turn you can hear the stall alarm come on.

But the game looks amazing and I haven't done anything with it yet. (Tweaked the graphics or anything. I just hit the built in "HIGH" setting and left it at that. Getting around 120 FPS on it.)

Any flaps on the P-51? Didnt see any in the animation. Also did you have a cross wind from the right?
Yes, it has flaps. Yes, they were down but I didn't have them in landing position as I should have, they were in combat position.

No crosswind to speak of, just a ton of engine torque I'm not used to dealing with.

It's VERY unstable at low speed. Once you're up it's amazing and easy to fly.

Of course, I'm yet to fight in it, so it's just site seeing flight I'm talking about.
