This story told me by my dear friend Scottie. How much of it you care to believe is entirely up to you:

So you remember Tom from the marina, right? So me and him decide we've had enough and need to blow off some steam, so we decide to go to Dave and Busters and get drunk, play some games and unwind.

We get there and I've had a few drinks so I go over to the basketball machines. And I'm putting up bricks. Everything's hitting the rim, nothing goes. Meanwhile, next to me, the balls are just going whoosh, whoosh, whoosh; I mean this guy is draining them all. So I stop and just watch this guy knock them down and I'm thinking, "this guy looks VERY familiar to me".

So he notices me watching and finishes and I'm like, "Do I know you? You look really familiar."

He says, "I don't know. Did you grow up around here?"

I said, "Yeah. Went to Marietta High School."

Him: Does me no good. I went to Billerica in Massachusetts.

Me: Oh. So did you play basketball or something? I mean you were really knocking those things down, man!

Him: Nope. I played baseball.

Me: Really? College?

Him: Well, I played for the Atlanta Braves. That might be where you know me from.

Me: Like, when they sucked or...?

Him: (looking more than a bit perplexed) We won the World Series in '95. I was the MVP.

Me: And your name is?

Him: Tom Glavin.

Me: Nope. Still not ringing a bell.

So we do some small talk for a minute or two and Tom (from the marina) comes over to inform me that the picture of beer he just ordered isn't going to drink itself. I introduce him to Tom Glavin. Tom has no idea who he is either, so we invite Glavin over to have a drink.

So we're sitting there with him having drinks and I guess he simply couldn't believe that we had no idea who he was. He ran through some of the things he had done, some of which I think I remembered but I wasn't really sure.

After about 15 or 20 minutes or so, this other guy with glasses comes walking up to us, looks at us kind of funny, then looks over at Glavin and says, "Hey man. Sorry I'm late. You ready to go?"

We're just sort of staring at him because he looks familiar too. Sort of.

Glavin looks at this new fellow with glasses that just showed up and says, "this is Scottie and Tom from lake Allatoona."

The guy extends his hand, says, "Pleasure to meet you. I'm Greg Maddox."

We look at him..."Who?"

Glavin's head hits the table. Maddox looks at us funny. "Greg Maddox. Atlanta Braves. '95 world champions."

Tom and I sort of look at each other..."OK. If you say so!"

The two of them leave, only once glancing back over their shoulders at us in a sort of perplexed disbelief. Later that night, I broke out the phone and looked them up and I'll be damned. It was really them.
