At the time, I didn't have a guitar but I was saving up to buy one. This is how that conversation went:

Me: So which guitar should I buy, a Gibson or a Fender?
JP: You owe it to yourself to have one of each.
Me: I can only afford one.
JP: Then definitely get the Fender. Reason being, if you need to, you can make a Fender sound like a Gibson, but you will never make a Gibson sound like a Fender.
