Sen. Roger Wicker, the number two Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said Wednesday that President Biden should not 'rule out' military action in Ukraine if Russia invades, including the use of nuclear weapons.

'There's certain things in negotiations that if you're going to be tough that you don't take off the table,' the Mississippi Republican told Fox News' Neil Cavuto in an interview from the Capitol. 'And so I think the president should say that everything is on the table.'

I remember in the early 80's being in a discussion on the cold war with some commonwealth allies. Reagan and Gorbachev were sending veiled threats to each other through the media. One person clearly suggested that it was time to "drop another nuke" so the damned politicians would actually see the weapon they were going on about using against the other side. "They've forgotten what a fucking nuke will do; it's time to drop one on them and make them remember. It'll only take one or two.".

You want to drop nuke's? You want to drop nukes??

Tell you what...watch a British 1980's movie called "Threads". If you thought "The Day After" was terribly accurate in it's graphic portrayal of post nuclear war then you need to know Threads was so realistic some viewers actually developed PTSD. It's not just about the first days and weeks after the limited exchange but the film follows through 15 years after (iirc). To this day there are scenes I saw in Threads that still haunt me.

AND, if you survive Threads and still want to drop, then you have one more hurdle. An even more graphic depiction of post nuclear warfare from a BBC production called "The War Game". I've seen about 3/4 of it in snippets and again there are images that still haunt me to this day. It skillfully cuts between horrific scenes of destruction and "leading figures calmly giving interviews about the safe use of nuclear weapons". Fucking bone-chilling in a way Wes Craven could only dream of.

CAUTION - THESE FILMS ARE INTENSLY GRAPHIC IN NATURE.

Nobody really remembers regular war either because it doesn't effect them personally. They're not the ones getting bombed back to the stone age, so they don't care.

Today's nukes are weapons so terrifying it defies belief, but nobody cares because it doesnt effect them personally.

Everything is the same now: we've become so spoiled that nothing matters.

Until, of course, it effects us personally. Then we're first in line to start up a movement. As has been said on this forum more times than I can count: the human race has become too stupid to live much longer.

Most of our nukes are within a couple hours drive of me. I can't remember exactly how many but I think it's 500 or so that are within a two to three hour ride of here. A hundred or so of them are literally right down the fucking street.

At least you don't have far to run. Hell, you can sit right where you are and you wont feel a thing.

@Zeedox I just found that they have 'Threads' on Tubi. I'll watch that in the next few days.

Brutal.

Far more accurate than 'The Day After' was in my opinion.

Of all the remakes going on right now, it would be a hell of a PSA to remake this given modern special effects.

I think people could use the wake up call.

Perhaps even worse was the other I mentioned - in particular it took great care getting politicians, ordinary people, and even clergy to agree to "moderate" retaliatory strikes and then show images and videos of the effects of those strikes. Also getting the same people to agree to extreme marshal law measures 'for the good of all'.
