After more than three weeks of demonstrations, the only engines heard around Parliament on Sunday were those of tow trucks working to remove the last remaining "Freedom Convoy" vehicles from downtown Ottawa.

The scene marked a dramatic shift from just a day or two earlier, when police and protesters engaged in tense standoffs around Parliament Hill — one side looking to end weeks of anti-mandate and anti-government protests in the nation's capital, the other trying to extend them.

“We’ve taken back our city,” Ottawa city councillor Eli El-Chantiry, chair of the Ottawa Police Services Board, said in a media update Sunday afternoon.

Interim police Chief Steve Bell said in a media update Sunday afternoon that of the 191 arrestees, 107 have been charged. A total of 389 charges have been laid so far, ranging from mischief and obstruction to assault of a police officer, and Bell added that there will be updates on more charges in the next few days.

“If you are involved in this protest, we will actively look to identify you and follow up with financial sanctions and criminal charges,” Ottawa police tweeted Sunday. A day earlier, interim Police Chief Steve Bell was asked whether police would continue to go after those protesters who had remained in Ottawa, even if they chose to go home at some point.


“The simple answer is yes,” he said, adding the investigation would go on for “months to come.”


“You have my commitment that that investigation will continue and we will hold people accountable for taking our streets over,” Bell said.

Always. They ALWAYS trash the place. Right wingers kill me. No matter who they are and where they're from they talk about how much they allegedly love their country but they can't go anywhere without literally trashing the hell out of it.

Tamara Lich, one of the leading organizers behind protests against COVID-19 restrictions and the Liberal government near Parliament Hill, has been denied bail.

An Ontario court judge issued the decision in Ottawa this morning, saying she believed there was a substantial likelihood Lich would reoffend if released.

Ontario Court Justice Julie Bourgeois said in the decision that the effect on the community from the actions of the convoy were immense and that she felt Lich was obstinate and disingenuous in her responses to the court during her bail hearing on Saturday.

I love to hear Freedum truckers screaming about their "first amendment" rights.

They failed history so badly they fail to realize the first amendment in Canada was the Manitoba Act of 1870 (which recognized Manitoba as a new province). :rolleyes::rolleyes:

If she asked to be released on her own recognizance and that was denied I could get that. But to be denied bail of any kind for a non-violent offense is sort of rare here, that's for sure. Even Bernie Madoff was allowed bail.
