Well, DeSantis has fucked around long enough. We now move on to the find out stage.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts on Wednesday sued Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his hand-picked oversight board, accusing the Republican 2024 presidential prospect of weaponizing his political power to punish the company for exercising its free speech rights.
The lawsuit was filed in federal court minutes after the board appointed by DeSantis to oversee Disney’s special taxing district sought to claw back its power from the entertainment giant, voting to invalidate an agreement struck between Disney and the previous board in February, just before that board’s dissolution.
“What they created is an absolute legal mess, OK? It will not work,” said Martin Garcia, chairman of the DeSantis-picked Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board of supervisors.

The new complaint references legislation passed last week by Florida lawmakers that rescinds agreements that Disney and a previous oversight board consisting of Disney supporters made earlier this year, giving the entertainment giant control over design and construction at Disney World. The amended lawsuit also includes the new measure passed last week by Florida lawmakers giving the state authority to inspect Disney World’s monorail system, which previously had been conducted in-house.

Disney is the only company impacted by the new measure and it “was precision-engineered to target Disney alone, just as Governor DeSantis intended and previewed,” said the amended lawsuit.

He continued. “Also, this is not about special privileges or a level playing field or Disney in any way using its leverage around the state of Florida. But since there’s been a lot said about special districts and the arrangement that we have, I want to set the record straight on that too. There are about 2,000 special districts in Florida. Most are established to foster investor development, where we were one of them. He basically made it easier for us—and others, by the way—to do business in Florida, and we built a business that employs, as we said before, over 75,000 people, and attracts tens of millions of people to the state.

Citing “changing business conditions” and the return of CEO Bob Iger, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney’s parks, experiences and products division, penned a memo to employees Thursday, announcing that the company will not move forward with construction of the campus and will no longer be asking more than 2,000 California-based employees to relocate to Florida.

Many Disney employees balked at the company’s relocation plans when they were first announced in July 2021 by former CEO Bob Chapek. While some left the company, or transitioned to other posts within Disney that would not require a move to Florida, others held out hope that the plan would fizzle out after a postponement. The campus was originally slated to open in 2022-2023, but was later delayed to 2026.
...
D’Amaro said employees who have already moved to Florida may be able to relocate back to California.

He's trying his level best to bankrupt Florida.

It's not easy though because it is THE vacation spot for half the nation.

If he were doing this crap in Georgia to the likes of Coke, Delta and Home Depot the state would probably already be broke.

While many fans and reviewers expressed satisfaction with the experience, and it won a prestigious theme park award, critics focused on the very steep price, starting at about $4,800 per couple for a two-night stay.

This looks like the second project helmed by former Disney CEO Bob Chapek, along with the Lake Nona, Florida office development, that was canceled today under current Disney CEO Bob Iger.

I'm gonna bet they were looking for an excuse. But if you can throw it at ron these days go for it!

That really has nothing to do with it. I know people are saying it does, but it doesn't.

Disney is simply hemorrhaging money. They lost 600+ million on their streaming service alone.

That's why they brought Iger back: to stop the bleeding. I'm sure he takes more than a little pleasure from fucking with DeSantis, but this is all strictly business.

My bad then.

All of it happening right before DeSantis announcing he's running for President is hysterical. On the one hand, he, and a few of his knucklehead followers, thinks that it makes him look good, like he takes on the big corporations and such.

And then, of course, there's reality - he's fucking up Florida's reputation, making other business make other plans and not want to do business there and costing his state thousands of jobs and God doesn't even know how much money in added economy and taxes.
