So DCS is having a big sale, so I jumped on the Flaming Cliffs 3 module for $24.99. It comes with:

A10A Warthog (I already had that.)
Mig 29A and S models
Su 27 and 33 models
F15 C Eagle
Su 25

I'm going to start in the Su 27 as it has a good deal of tutorials to it. It's a bit twitchy, but a real joy to fly so far.

I've been on the fence about getting the Track IR system. A guy told me if I had a web cam that I could do it for free with AI Track and Open Track.

Well, I don't have a web cam, but I know someone who does.

So I just pilfered my son's web cam.

And I'm here to tell you, this is some next level coolness. It's not nearly as good as the Track IR system, but it is free. I've got a lot of work to do on the mapping as that is everything. (You can tell I'm doing some of that at the start of the video.) Right now, it over reacts a bit on center and under reacts at the corners. That's something I'll have to spend some time working to get right, but man, right out of the box it's a game changer.

It is just so much easier to look around with than using the hat on the stick. I just uploaded this so it's still low res only. The REALLY cool part of this is that I can actually lean forward to look at the dashboard to see the gauges better.

Do you often dance down the runway on takeoff? lol

Are there any other variants of the P47?

PROHIBITED MANEUVERS
•Intentional spins of more than one-half turn
•Outside loops
•Whip stalls
•Prolonged inverted flight (engine may cut out due to fuel starvation)
•Snap rolls
•Slow rolls above 313 mph
•Slow speed turns
•When external tanks are installed:
•Dynamic Maneuvers
•Training Landings
•High-speed Dives
•Tight turns or dives exceeding 225 mph with cowl flaps open (tail buffeting may result)

That was my 2nd takeoff. I had taken off, turned around and landed (and that was a Captain Kangaroo affair to be sure) and then took off again. (Hence why my landing flaps were down at the start of the video.)

Also, as a full mod, the entire cockpit actually functions. It's all clickable. (I adjusted the supercharger, physically looked back to grab the knob to close the canopy, etc.)

  • Accurate P-47D model, cockpit, squadron markings and weaponry.
  • Detailed modelling of all instruments, weapons, engine, radios, fuel, and electrical systems.
  • New structure-based damage model including damage from both battle and high G-load.
  • Improved engine model with a new cooling system and realistic engine-management
  • Virtual Reality support including motion controllers.
P-47D-30 early modification that includes:

It'll take me months to learn how to actually use it with any proficiency, I'm sure.
