COVID Thread

I got a flu shot two days ago and asked about the new covid booster. I've already had two boosters. The pharmacist told me that at this point they don't have any guidance at all for a third booster, which would no doubt be that new one for me.

Biden himself said just last week that the pandemic was over.

Not sure what's going to happen from here.

The variant BA.2.75.2, one of the latest developments in the Omicron lineage of COVID-19, can evade the majority of neutralizing antibodies in the blood, the study found, and is also resistant to several monoclonal antibody antiviral treatments that were created to treat those ill with COVID-19.

The mutations that make this possible in BA.2.75.2 are popping up in other variants as the virus continues to expand and evolve, researchers say — and it's still unknown whether bivalent vaccines will provide more robust immunity against this particular variant.

On the news just now:

They had a guy that is in charge of one of the Emory Hospitals here talking about it. He said in short that first off the industry hasn't recovered from the massive wave of 20-21. That not only killed a lot of people, but it ran a lot of people out of the health care industry due to burn out, etc. that they still haven't been able to replace.

What's more, they're expecting a horrid flu season on top of it. Georgia is already in the red zone for flu activity. Reason being, nobody is wearing masks anywhere anymore, nobody is getting their flu vaccine and so it's spreading like wildfire.

He's "extremely concerned" that this could turn into the perfect storm - hospitals slammed with serious flu cases with a new covid strain tossed in on top of it.

We'll know in a matter of weeks if he turns out to be right. Frankly, I think he's right. I think we're screwed.

More than 800,000 people in one district in Wuhan were told to stay at home until 30 October.
"We feel numb to it all. We feel more and more numb," one local told Reuters.
The city of Zhengzhou, home to the world's largest iPhone manufacturing plant, was also affected.
It comes as China reported a third straight day of more than 1,000 cases.
Earlier this month Mr Xi signalled that there would be no easing up of the zero-Covid policy, calling it a "people's war to stop the spread of the virus".

As of Oct 24, some 28 cities across the country were implementing some degree of lockdown measures, analysts Nomura told news agency Reuters - with around 207 million people affected in regions responsible for almost a quarter of China's GDP, it added.
