Car Search 2021

Nice, Vmax is sweet!

I know the car nostalgia you feel for your 525. I think back on all the cars I miss, my 85 Audi Coupe, 91 Audi Coupe, 92 Acura Integra GS, 98 BMW 323is, 01 Audi S4 Avant...now I haul my lil kids in a Volvo tank... ah well.

I'm going to have to be in the market for something one day. My vehicle is doing ok right now, but one day in the future, I'll need to start looking into something down the road.

But, I'm not really sure what to start looking into?

I've considered SUV's perhaps. I need utility. Something I can depend on, something reliable, I can put things in, occasionally carry things etc.

At the same time, now that we seem to be talking about gearing up the car industry towards "Electric Vehicles", I wonder how soon down the road we actually are away from this transition? 2030 ? Sooner ? Or later ?

If we were to trade for new vehicles now?, would this theoretically be our last time just prior to that transition?

Good to see you.

Depending on how you define the 'transition', it may have already occurred or be close to tipping. One Forbes article I read said around 2050 60% - 80% will be EV. That's new sales though.

Someone elsewhere said "in 10 years only the poor will drive gas vehicles; in 20 years only the rich". I don't think it's 10/20 but more like 20/30.

Frankly, in order to do the EV thing all in, you have to be a home owner. Reason for that is pretty simple: charging.

If you don't have a dedicated 220 charging port at home, you're going to be DAYS charging your EV to full, not hours. If you're renting, I'm sure some landlords wont mind if you pay to put one in, but there it is: YOU are going to have to pay to put it in, and if you move a few months later, guess what?

You have to do it all over again.

It's sort of a shame to, because what little I know of your situation it seems you're the perfect candidate for an EV: not too many miles each day, city driving more times than not, few if any long road trips.

The other major downside though is just how expensive EV's are. For the price of the cheapest Tesla model 3, you could own a top of the line S60. Loaded.

They're just too freaking expensive, let alone the restrictions on distance, for us to even consider.

Dude! Thought you were fucking dead! Good seeing you man! If you want something reliable avoid SUVs all together man. I had a Toyota Landcruiser once and that damn thing spent more time in the shop than it did on the road. Everybody I know that's owned an SUV has wound up hating the damned thing.

Um.....

Yea.... Ah, Unless perhaps the FEDs stepped in at some point with federal dollars with cash $ & tax credits to landlord owners, if they upgraded charging station upgrades in rental communities, and 220v charging parking lot bays, which can be done, or the homes etc. that would solve 'some of it.' not all of it.

But, I watched an You Tube video on this. Their working on speeding up the charging process, massively! And reconfiguring the speed of charging and different adaptors, with different types of batteries, charging stations, at a rapid pace. They were talking about the 110/220 business. They also were talking about how that's not even the real problem actually.

There's a bigger problem their working on. I'll have to find that You Tube video again. I've just been so hobbled for time lately.

Getting ready to head out for another doctors appointment.

Been busy, with all kinds of stuff. And, still got stuff going on yet. I'll be coming in and out. But, yea, just so over whelmed.

Hope everything is going OK. Good seeing you again though. Hang in there man. I know how tough shit can get. After all I lost my place and my job and wound up living with my uncle.

I'm just now getting a few checks under my belt and paying my uncle for some bills and getting back on my feet again. Hang in there man. Shit has a way of working itself out eventually.

Good video but I find it a bit disingenuous to say the government worries about the infrastructure of gas supply so it needs to worry about EV infrastructure.
Besides stop gas storage from blowing up when was the last time a government official said "whoa too many gas stations" or "whoops that's not enough gas stations" or '"the gas pours slowly here"?
