I don't know the ins and outs of this whole thing at all. Everybody is saying it was just a move to counter Canada's detainment of that Huawei executive. One thing I wonder though is this: what were the two of them doing going back and forth to North Korea?

There's three Canadians total who are currently held in prison. There are the "Michael's" (Korvig and Spavor) who in particular we as Canadians believe they were detain on bad charges because Trump had us do the extradition thing and then held off the DOJ taking her.
The third Canadian, who received a death penalty, was accused of smuggling drugs. I cannot say with certainty one way or the other if he was carrying or not.

I do know Winnie the Pooh and the CCP have taken an active interest in all three cases, so it does not bode well for true justice.

A lawyer for Canada's attorney general drilled down to the nuts and bolts of a U.S. request for Meng Wanzhou's extradition Wednesday, accusing the Huawei executive of "dishonesty" that resulted in a fraud against HSBC.

"And so my lady, at last we come to committal," Robert Frater told B.C. Supreme Court Associate Chief Justice Heather Holmes as he began submissions on the final leg of a process that began more than two-and-a-half years ago with Meng's arrest at Vancouver's airport.

Frater told the judge an extradition proceeding is not a trial; he said the Crown only has to show that prosecutors would have enough evidence to try Meng for fraud in Canada if her alleged wrongdoing had happened here.

The 49-year-old is charged in New York with fraud and conspiracy charges related to allegations she lied to an HSBC executive in Hong Kong during a meeting in August 2013 after a series of reports suggesting a Huawei subsidiary had violated U.S. economic sanctions against Iran.

Meng allegedly gave a Powerpoint claiming that her company had cut connections it once had to the subsidiary, Skycom, and that Huawei was in full compliance with U.S. sanctions law.

Prosecutors claim HSBC relied on Meng's misrepresentations in deciding to continue clearing financial transactions for Huawei through the U.S. banking system — putting the bank at risk of loss and criminal prosecution.

Holmes has to make a determination based on three documents filed by U.S. prosecutors detailing the evidence and witnesses they have to back up their allegations.

More is coming to light now. This is the first time I have really heard the charges other then an extradition request.

Well, I'm confused.

I'm not seeing how we (the U.S.) would have jurisdiction over what appears to be an altercation between China and a UK bank. Calling it the U.S. banking system is a bit of a reach, is it not? I'm not understanding how payments that had nothing to do with anybody in the United States would go through the United States.

Breaking sanctions is something pretty much everybody does at one point or another. Typically it gets resolved with warnings or a fine or something. I'm just not understanding how they're claiming that something she said MAY have caused a loss when there was, apparently, never a loss and how that could have somehow broke sanctions against Iran.

How the hell do you think we feel?

None of the shit governments are doing makes any sense anymore because it has nothing to do with governing. It's all about who fucked who on some financial deal and what can they do to make them pay for it.
