Major US airlines canceled hundreds more flights Sunday, the third day in a row of mass cancellations and delays over Christmas weekend, as staff and crew call out sick amid the Omicron surge.

More than 1,200 US flights were canceled and more than 5,000 were delayed Sunday, according to FlightAware. Globally, there were over 2,000 cancellations. Delta and JetBlue each saw over 100 cancellations Sunday.​

Globally, airlines canceled more than 6,000 flights on Christmas Eve, Christmas and the day after Christmas, according to FlightAware. That includes about 1,700 flights within, into or out of the United States.​

I have absolutely ZERO sympathy for people that once again threw caution to the wind and booked travel in the middle of a damned pandemic when a new strain is burning through the global population with blinding speed.

Humans are simply too damn stupid to live anymore. I swear, it's simply unbelievable how stupid people are.

A son's friend is curious if his return tickets are going to work and he re-booked wayyy back at July summer after he had another set of flights cancelled. He's originally from Newfoundland( Nfld) but has been working overseas for the last 5 or more years. He was supposed to be in my son's wedding party but was stuck due to changing vaccine requirements both here and in his current working country. He did join us via the web for 6 hours of the bachelor party and still later at the wedding, again via the web. All those flights were moved and he choose this holiday so he could stop in home to Nfld and celebrate Xmas with his Dad whom he hasn't seen in a while either.

He got to Nfld. Now we see if he makes it to NS and then what's up.


But I do have to agree that anyone who booked after the Nov announcement of the variant is/are the maker of their own problems.

The governments should also be held accountable as they failed to implement travel restrictions domestically as the variant grabbed hold.

Americans book the week of or before. That's about it. What we have are a bunch of idiots that knowing Omicron was out there screwing everything up went ahead and booked flights to go visit and now they're stuck where they are.

What's more, they all quoted the Airline CEO's that said their filtration systems were so good they didn't need to wear masks.

And of course those idiots believed that and now all the flight crews are out sick with covid.

This is the dumbest nation on earth. It's simply mind boggling that these morons keep doing the same exact thing over and over again. This is the 5th round of holidays this has happened on in a row and they still just never learn.

If I fly somewhere it's going to be somewhere I don't mind not coming back from. My boss will be getting a call from Grand Bahama, Puerto Rico, Cancun or some shit like that. I'm not going to be calling him from fucking West Virginia to tell him my flight's cancelled.
