A statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee has been taken down in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday, nearly four years after white supremacist protests over plans to remove it led to clashes in which a woman was killed.

Shortly after the removal of the Lee statue, a statue of Confederate General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson was also removed from its base in another city park. Onlookers who had gathered hours earlier cheered as the statues were loaded onto trucks and driven away.

The irony of it all is that it was Robert E. Lee that stated no monuments should ever be made to honor the confederacy or those who fought for it.

Damned redneck racist just can't let it go.

In a way, it's a lot like Jesus: they say they love him and follow his teachings when they do essentially everything he said not to do.

Robert E. Lee fans are the exact same way. Not surprisingly it's the exact same people.

I saw a video of that the other day. It was titled the last charge of General Lee. It's a guy filming from his front patio as the truck hauling the statue off goes by.
