We all have at least several things that we say, "it's the best money I ever spent" about, but this one I truly believe just might be THE case in point.

I bought a pair of RedHead Bone Dry work boots from Bass Pro Shops in the summer of 1998. I was going to be doing field engineering the next few years, so I wanted something that was going to hold up.

They're Gortex lined, one of the first boots ever made that had that, and are inherently waterproof. They're cool in summer and warm in winter. The regular price on them was $129.00. I got them on sale for $99.99. (A good bit of money for a pair of boots today, let alone 22 years ago.)

Well, they just finally gave out.

Not the boots, but the laces that came in them. I've just replaced them with some laces from Danner. Here they are:

They're still water tight, still warm in winter and cool in summer. I've only replaced the foot liners (typically with Doctor Scholls every two years) and that's it. These boots built the Gwinnett Arena and the Gwinnett Data Center along with Tom Marney and his trusty HP32. They've been through hell.

They don't make these boots anymore. I guess we can all pretty much guess why.

They just don't make them like they used to.

See, we don’t make things anymore that we’re built to last. That’s what we built the country on. Now, have to break things like that, or stop making them, or sell out etc.

Because, big business, capitalism has no further use for that anymore. Their only into grabbing the loot and running as fast out of dodge as quickly as possible, before it breaks, or the customers realise they’ve been had.

How we have changed for the worse.

40 years of Reaganomics, ( otherwise known as Neoliberalism )

The boots they make today are crap. I wouldn't have a pair if you gave them to me.
We used to make soooo much better stuff in this country at one time. I think only the Europeans tried to hold on to the quality ethic on making things ( Germans, Swiss, Scandinavia, a few of the other smaller countries... certain hi tech Japanese items etc)

I don’t know about Canada 🇨🇦? What’s happening up there Zeedox, with high quality made stuff ?”

When you spend good money you should get a good product.
Look at me, I will be battling with a merchant tomorrow via phone to have an expensive recliner to be taken back to the store, because it’s a 🍋 lemon.

It’s pricey. I intent to get my money back too. The state of affairs is not good these days with products.

whole system is broken.

It's the same at most places. Cheap goods built cheaply to sell to people who want the lowest price...

Is that the recliner we had the big discussion about? Wow.
You're missing half of it that I have in PM's. It's worse than you think. :ROFLMAO:

We still make some really good boots. If (and it's doubtful) I ever have to buy another pair, I'll go with Danner. Timberland are crap these days too. Danner's are very pricey, but worth every penny you spend on them.

Yes. And, I will be calling them sometime today, which will be my final call. If they fail to cooperate, then the bank will be dealing with them the rest of the way. (they already are now... technically under the dispute process) which has been filed on their end. I'm only giving one final call ( which I've already done 2 days ago ) because she ask my to tell the other manager, which I don't see why I need to, but I am going to tell him anyway, so that can't try to say "they were not told by me..." Which, I'm sure I'm going to get a BS response, and I'm going to politely tell them, "just please put the money back on the card, and come get the chair, for the record."

Can confirm on the Danners. Good boot. My dad swore by them and it's all my brother will wear. Not sure I ever saw anything other than Danners on the farm.
