Apparently, the person set off some smoke bombs before he open fired.

Pretty dumb and smart at the same time. Smart because nobody could see who was shooting so he can't be ID'd easy, but dumb because he couldn't see what he was shooting at.
 
I'm guessing he knew exactly where he was (both inside the car and the train as a whole on the line) and how many steps in each direction to different areas of the car. And it's a subway so I'm guessing learning that was easy since there are almost all the same.

I'm curious as to the motive if they figure it out.
 
Well, you know it's domestic because the gettaway was the prime factor in it, not maximum casualties.

Had it been a Muslim, the whole car goes up and nobody survives.

I'm guessing it's a white Trump follower trying to own the New York libs.
