COVID Thread

As much as I hate to say this, that's still good news.

You have to remember that when we were setting those death tolls at the peak of Delta we were testing at 275,000 to 335,000 cases per day. We're testing at three levels above that right now and just now matching the Delta death tolls.

The means, at least on its face, that Omicron is roughly 1/3rd to half as deadly.

Dr. Fauci was talking about that the other day. In essence, he was of the opinion that covid will probably be with us forever like the flu, morphing from one strain to the next as it passes around the globe and modifies itself.

Pfizer was saying that they would like to get to a point where people get a yearly booster like the flu vaccine and then just go on with life as usual from that point.

I'm thinking both are going to turn out to be right. The only X factor for me is: are we getting better at fighting off covid (since omicron isn't nearly as deadly as Delta was) or is omicron just an outlier and the next strain will be as deadly or more deadly than Delta ever was?

That's the only thing that concerns me - a stronger strain coming along that is able to overcome the vaccines we have before we get a permanent vaccine ready.

I tell you, I just don't get it.

Just got back from Publix. NOBODY wearing a mask. 750,000 cases per day, nobody cares.

At the bakery I was waiting to get some fresh sliced bread and here comes a guy around 35 or so, three kids, no masks.

Just gobsmacked.

You want to be cavalier with your life? Well, you're welcome.

But your kids? Especially the two that looked 5 or younger that can't be vaccinated yet? You're rolling the dice for them too?

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!
Same shit here man. It's funny because a week and change ago I got a call at o dark thirty in the fucking morning saying to work from home and then a few days later it's like the shit never happened. You even mention covid anymore people just shrug and say meh and keep walking.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) says it has detected more than 50 cases of a new Omicron subvariant known as BA.2.

In an emailed statement to CTVNews.ca on Wednesday, PHAC confirmed that 51 cases of the BA.2 subvariant have been reported in Canada, mainly from international travellers.

BA.2 is a descendant of the highly transmissible Omicron variant and has been found in at least 40 countries as of Wednesday,
according to global coronavirus data sharing platform GISAID.

PHAC said it is monitoring BA.2, as it does with all new COVID-19 variants, and maintains that Canadians should continue to follow the advice of public health officials.

Joni Mitchell has followed Neil Young’s lead and removed her music from Spotify.

“I’ve decided to remove all my music from Spotify,” Mitchell said in a brief note posted to her website on Friday. “Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.”

She's more 70's. Folk song style. Two you most likely heard (at some point in passing) are Big Yellow Taxi (tagline - they paved paradise, put up a parking lot) and Both Sides Now (tagline - I've looked at love from both sides now, I really don't know love at all).

At least that snowflake is in the right place environmentally. Nothing has really changed here since day one. People are always sick. Always refusing to do anything that will help. Tourist come in in droves and then take it home with them. I've pretty much given up giving a shit. I take care of me and keep on keeping on. Fuck everybody else. I have no patience anymore for idiots that wont even help themselves.
