COVID Thread

The Health Department confirmed Hawaii’s first case of the Omicron variant Thursday and officials said the unvaccinated resident has no history of travel outside the state.

That means there could be community spread of the worrisome mutation in the islands.

It's probably been there for weeks or months, they're just now finding it. Like I said before, I wouldn't be surprised to find the whole thing started right here and nobody ever bothered to check for it or report it until South Africa did.

From that article:

"We probably missed many generations of recombinations" that occurred over time and that led to the emergence of Omicron, Soundararajan added.
That's what I've thought all along. There are probably hundreds of variants out there by now, it's just that they only bother really categorizing them every 8 to 10 months or so.

Glad I'm on the full line. Plus booster.

I'm awaiting our provincial announcement for the boosters for over 50. We're still currently sitting at only the immune compromised, high risk first responders and the over 70 crowd. The Feds have already signaled a booster should be given to over 50 and several other provinces have started but not us.
